SAFEWALL® integrally bunded tank technology from NIPLAST® is derived from recognising a common problem for clients; that is the need to fully bund liquid storage tank, but without the space required for a traditional ‘cup and saucer’ tank and bund format.

SAFEWALL® tanks have therefore been conceived by combining a high specification thermoplastic storage tank within a close-fitting thermoplastic bund. This ‘twin-wall’ construction creates an internal minimum 110% capacity bunding cavity within the overall fabrication, for the collection of any overfill or leakage, without extending the overall footprint by more than a few hundred millimetres.

The internal tank and the outer bund both feature their own dedicated bases unlike other systems which locate concentric walls onto one common base. The completed SAFEWALL® tank is manoeuvred and installed as a one-piece system.

The system includes overfilling and leak detection within the bunding cavity, alerting operators via beacon and klaxon and other signal types. Isolation valves located within the internal tank can be actuated from outside the tank to close down drain and outlet lines.

The number of connections through the tank and bund walls is kept to a minimum and can be reduced to zero with the option of roof only mounted connections.
Both the internal tank and the outer bund are constructed from the highest rated welding technique within BS EN 12573, i.e. the butt fusion of extruded thermoplastic plates.

Niplast fabrication technicians are certified to EN 13067 by The Welding Institute (TWI).

Chemical storage tanks

SAFEWALL® tanks are innovative chemical storage systems that integrate primary containment and secondary bunding into a single self-contained system. This close-fitting ‘twin-wall’ construction provides enhanced environmental protection without substantially increasing the storage footprint.

The key advantage of SAFEWALL® tanks is their

dual-wall fabrication method. The inner tank that directly contacts the stored liquid is encompassed within a secondary outer tank that forms the containment bund. Rather than sit adjacent to each other, the two walls are integrated into a total single-walled unit with minimal annular space between them.

This integrated bunding approach is different than traditional external tank-bund configurations. By wrapping the bund directly around the inner tank, SAFEWALL® systems maximise storage capacity within a minimal footprint. There is no need for extensive additional bunding space beyond the main tank dimensions.

Dedicated Base Walls

An important distinction is that both the inner tank and outer bund have their own independent base walls, unlike some other manufacturers models which rely on a single base. With SAFEWALL® tanks, the inner and outer walls are completely separated from the ground up for full encapsulation.

This dedicated base design prevents leaks from escaping under the tank floor into the environment. Complete separation of the inner and outer walls also allows for continuous leak detection monitoring of the interstitial space. Any leaks through the inner wall are safely captured in the annular gap where sensors can raise an alarm.

Single-Piece Installation

The entire SAFEWALL® system is pre-fabricated off-site and installed as one self-contained unit. There is no complex on-site construction needed to integrate separate inner and outer tanks. The single-piece installation reduces time and costs while maintaining the highest quality standards. SAFEWALL® tanks deliver turnkey secondary containment through innovative integrated bunding within a compact, easy-to-install storage solution.
